New lenses into your current frames
“I want new lenses in my current frames — but I don’t have a spare pair to wear in the meantime. Is that possible?”
This is a question we hear regularly at SEASONS Optical, and it’s a completely valid concern. The answer is yes.
What Is Lens Reglazing?
Lens reglazing or lens replacement is the process of fitting new lenses into your existing frames. It’s a great option if:
- Your prescription has changed but your frames still fit and look great
- Your lenses are scratched or worn but the frames are in good condition
- You have a favourite frame that’s been discontinued and can’t be replaced
- You want to upgrade to a different lens type — such as transitions, polarised, or anti-reflective — without changing your look.
Reglazing is typically more cost-effective than buying a completely new pair. The problem many of our customers run into is that they only have one pair of glasses. The traditional approach to reglazing requires you to leave your frames at the practice for several days while the new lenses are made. For most people, that means going without their glasses entirely, which simply isn’t practical.
At SEASONS Optical in Melbourne CBD, we solve this with a modern digital tracer.
How Our Digital Tracer Works
A lens tracer is a precision instrument that maps the exact shape of your current lens in a matter of seconds. It reads every curve, angle, and dimension. This creates a perfect digital template that our laboratory uses to cut your new lenses to a precise fit.
The process is quick, non-invasive, and remarkably accurate. We don’t need to keep your frames to do it.
Here’s what the process looks like at SEASONS:
- You bring in your existing frames
- We trace the lens shape using our digital tracer
- Your frames go straight back to you, you walk out wearing them the same day
- We order and manufacture your new lenses using the digital template
- You return when your lenses are ready — we fit them on the spot
No days without your glasses. No compromise on quality.
What Types of Lenses Can Be Reglazed?
At SEASONS Optical, we can reglaze a wide range of lens types into your existing frames, including:
- Single vision lenses
- Multifocals
- Prescription sunglasses
- High-index lenses for stronger prescriptions
The suitability of reglazing also depends on the condition and design of your existing frames. We’ll assess this at your appointment and give you an honest recommendation.
Is Reglazing Right for Your Frames?
Reglazing works with most frame types, but there are some cases where we may advise against it — for example, if the frame is structurally compromised, or if the frame shape is incompatible with your new lens prescription. We’ll always be upfront about this before any work is done.
It's also worth noting that rimless, half-rim, and specialty fitting frames may not be compatible with in-house reglazing. In these cases we will still need to send the frame to be fitted however we can discuss how to minimise the turnaround time for you.
If you have a frame you love, whether it’s a cherished pair, a vintage find, or simply a shape that fits you perfectly, feel free to bring them in to discuss your lens replacement options.
