One Week with the Even Realities G2 here at SEASONS Optical
After more than a decade in optometry, I've seen a lot of eyewear innovation — some of it meaningful, most of it not.
The Even Realities G2 is truly revolutionary and it actually delivers on what it promises.We've been wearing the G2 in-store and in daily life for a week now, and this is an honest account of what that's actually been like.
A few things have stood out over the course of the week.
The first happened the moment we put the frames on- the heads-up display itself: We all have a familiarity on what our vision is and how our eyes perform. What we can see in our field of vision and how bright things should be. It’s our baseline and we don’t have any point of reference.
The Even G2 challenges this.
The first time you see the crisp, green floating text suspended in space is genuinely incredible. It’s the sort of thing you see in video games and it's the kind of thing you have to experience first hand. This dashboard gives you all your critical information on demand and unobtrusively. Notifications and daily reminders would appear and automatically disappear automatically, I found myself not needing to glance at my phone as often and hence less distracted as the day progressed. It’s this display that forms the basis of all the other features of the Even G2.
These were the features or “Apps” that I've so far found the most useful:
Live Translate
This worked excellently as I conversed with various family members who spoke Korean and Mandarin. The time it took to translate real dialogue was a vast improvement compared to Google Translate which I previously relied upon. Once again, instead of having to awkwardly speak directly into my phone and wait for the translation to process, text appeared right in front of me with little delay, removing any awkward pauses and moments of “lost-in-translation”. I can see this working seamlessly in a foreign country or as an aid whilst conversing in a language that I have some basic proficiency with but not 100% competent.
Conversate
The Conversate function was another one of my most-used features. Having a live transcription running during meetings meant I could give my full attention to the person in front of me without the anxiety and distraction of needing to take notes. The dictated record is then instantly available to look back upon or exported as a pdf or docx file. I found this useful to reflect upon the conversation at the end of the day, look through the key summary points generated by Even AI and assess potential areas of improvement with my phrasing or things I may have missed. Once again, the text appears live in my display such that if I misheard something in the moment, I could easily look back and verify. In fact, i see this conversate feature being incredibly useful for those who are hard of hearing as they will be able to read the conversation like subtitles.
In-store, the response from customers confirmed my own experience. At SEASONS Optical, we have been offering one-on-one demos with the Even G2 to showcase the product and technology. Whether someone saw our G2 display and curiously asked to find our more, or those who booked in an appointment having already watched the reviews and done their own research, the reactions were consistently the same: genuine amazement at how good the real-life experience felt and how well things worked. For those who came in with expectations already set by online content, the G2 met them and more.
